Pat Harker
I have been a Tulsa Police Officer for over 12 years and have also been a member of the department's Special Operations Team (SWAT) for 5 years. I am an Instructor at the Academy and teach Defensive Tactics (Life-saving skills) to the Recruits.
It was over a year ago that I learned of CrossFit from a fellow Officer. I went to the website and attempted my first WOD. WOW! I was completely humbled and hooked at the same time. From then on I have become a convert and I am looking forward to going to the CrossFit Level 1 Certification after the first of the year.
I have been involved in Martial Arts since childhood and remain active in studying, teaching and training. I am involved with the Oklahoma Professional Boxing Commission and I am an ABC certified Judge for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts.
I have worked as a Ring Announcer for over 18 years and have done fights on ESPN-2 and Showtime.
It is my opinion that all Officers need to be in top physical condition when faced with a life or death struggle. It's not if, but when. Over the past several years we have noticed a decrease in the physical readiness of the Recruits when we begin Defensive Tactics Training.
Sgt. Brandon Wykoff, Sgt. Sean Larkin, Officer David Brice, Officer Josh Dupler and myself, along with our Academy Staff has started to implement CrossFit workouts to the Recruits in the Academy. We look forward to a much improved physically ready Recruit to learn these important skills.
Being active in the Fight game I also see the advantages in the ring/cage for fighters to be in top physical condition. These men and women are consummate professionals and their training needs are some of the most demanding. I have recently had the pleasure of helping several local fighters take their physical training to a whole new level.
I have been a teacher, mentor and trainer for most of my life and it is my passion to help you reach your goals whether they are in the street or in the ring.
